Tenth Anniversary of

THE POLISH AMERICAN TRAVELERS CLUB

January 2006 marks Tenth Anniversary of the Polish American Travelers Club and its work to promote efforts and achievements of the Polish -American explorers and researchers that strive to make their mark in the United States and around the World.

How important is the Club to the Polish American Community? Let facts speak for themselves!

During last ten years the Polish American Travelers Club served almost 16,000 “adventure and information hungry“ Polish-Americans in their quest to explore the United States and the World. They listened to 40 world class explorers and experts, participated in 55 special trips within the USA and around the globe, enjoyed 129 special informational and social events focused on the world and people around us.

In the active Polish American Community the Polish – American Travelers Club makes its mark with a smile. It uses exciting and innovating activities to develop and to nurture a bond between Polish and American explorers, and between generations united by a common drive to learn about other people and other places.

As noted by the former Consul General of The Republic of Poland in New York, Honorable Dariusz Jadowski: “The achievements of the Polish –American Travelers Club are so prolific that they can easily belong too many not just one organization. Furthermore, the Club trough its vitality, and its valuable and robust activities serves as an ambassador of the Polish world interests and Poland  in the American society.”

Among Club’s many activities there are one that is especially important to reinforce the bond between Poland and the United States. This is a collaboration with the Polish Explorer Club in Poland for which the Polish American Travelers Club serves as  “a Window to America”. Over past ten years thanks to sponsorship provided by the Travelers Club eleven world renowned Polish explorers and researchers were hosted in the United States. During their visits they had an opportunity to meet with both Polish -American and American public and they able to advance their exploratory research and activities.  Six of those special guests served as distinguished lecturers in the Headquarter of The World Explorer Club in the USA propagating a vital information exchange between Polish, American and World explorers and experts.

Those uniquely qualified and gifted individuals were:

Marek Kaminski: an explorer, the first man to reach South & North Poles in the same calendar year;
Andrzej Zawada: a
pioneer of winter Himalayan climbing;

Cpt. Krystyna Chonowska –Liskiewicz: a sea captain, the first woman to sail solo around the world;

Krzysztof Wielicki: a mountain climber, the first man who conquest Mt.Everest in the winter;

Elżbieta Dzikowska: an explorer who discovered the last capital of the Incas;

Zdzisław Ryn: an explorer,  the world class specialist in a rare  field of mountain medicine.

 Last but not least, in a spirit of its domestic and world interests the club is always ready to respond to special needs of the Polish- American and World Communities.  Over the past years the Club members and its four loyal sponsors: Polish Airlines LOT, Western Union, ADAMBA IMPORTS and DOMA EXPORTS provided charitable contributions for many valuable causes.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the Club members, its supporters and sponsors we provided a financial aid to the town Arequipa in Peru, after a tragic earthquake of 2001, financed a life saving operation for a Polish child, provided funds to the Polish Orphanage in Jelenia Gora, assisted the victims of fire in Passaic and supported the Exploratory Research trip to Canyon COLCA in Peru and the exploration of Aconcagua in Argentina to name just few of the Club  charitable initiatives. We have also made a long term commitment to support young explorers and to sponsor a literary competition that popularize the geographical and anthropological explorations and enrich the community by providing the unique information and insight to those who cannot participate directly in the Club more challenging activities.

With 720 Members and Supporters the Polish American Travelers Clubs is committed to make a difference both far and near.
